I'm a bit of a risk taker as far as this goes...I don't like using Vaseline (it serves it's purpose but It loosens up my units knots and I hate using super hot water to melt it off of the knots/lace instead I mix leave in conditioner into my dye (not enough to significantly lighten the dye) just enough to thicken it up so I can apply it without making a mess and or staining my (transparent lace) .

I agree I darkened the roots on my Human hair U part wig with a black permanent magic marker. And it worked fine for me LOL I did have to go over it a few times though. That is probably safest if you really don't know what youre doing. You could stain the lace or get black dye on the ends of the hair where you dont want it.
I do know what I am doing but I just didnt feel like it bc it is such a pain and risky to use dye on a wig you like.
