when i was a kid, i preferred the white dolls. I didnt think Christie was pretty Ouch. But Barbie was everywhere and so thats what i wanted to play with.

I would not buy my child white dolls, and would ask that my child only be given black dolls.
ITA with texas, I want my child to see and be completely comfortable with their own beauty before any other.

Slightly OT, but for my son, I'd encourage black superhero themed toys, posters, comics, etc. Its slightly more difficult because most popular super heros are white Ermm

I don't think I'd give my daughter a doll.

My older sister was obsessed with dolls.
She had over a hundred Barbie and friends .

Me and my little sis never got into them or played with them

No white dolls.
Most of my kids toys will be educational or like things to get them active though.

My daughter has a collection of black and Hispanic baby dolls. She has maybe 3 white baby dolls but her favorite is a Hispanic bitty baby. My daughter is an Afro-Latina so I was adamant about having our culture reflect through most of her daily interactions. Nothing against Caucasian dolls but she tends to pick the minority dolls in toy stores and she is 5.

Nah, no white dolls. I would want my daughter to play with things that reflect her beauty and skin tone. We all know how subconsciously the things children see and hear make impressions on them. It's up to us to buffer that.

i'll let her play with dolls from any color.  I had a huge barbie and barbie accessory collection.  I had the white, latina, and black barbies.  i always identified the black dolls as the ones being me when I played pretend and the other color dolls were just my sidekicks, friends, co-workers, etc...i'd rather have my kid be well adjusted and comfortable with anything while still understanding who she is.  having a few white dolls didn't stop my Kenya doll from being my favorite.
