I don't know ANYTHING about weightliftin except what I research online so thats why I ask alot of questions cuz I know the internet lies lol.

Yeah there's alot of debate about the heavy or light weight thing but the ebook 'The System' has where she alternates between heavy and light weights and noted that when she dropped the weights is when her muscles really started growing.

also from what i've found on researching whether to do light or heavy weights it seems the main point is in order for the muscle to grow you have to fatigue it. once you can fatigue the muscle it will grow.

everyone has their own opinion and you just have to find what works best for you.

for me personally i found that i got too fatigued trying to lift such heavy weights more so than feeling 'the burn' in my muscle and still wasn't growing so amazingly enough to keep that up.

maybe it would be different if i had the lifting straps or a barbell or could afford the machines at the gym but only having dumbbells dropping weight and increasing reps and sets is the best way i can workout especially by myself.
I have this book and she says to do 3 sets of 50 using ankle weights, first 5 lbs then increase to 12 lbs, then 16 lbs then 20 lbs within 25 days. That seems like a LOT of reps, but I wanna try it in a couple of months when I'm able to get some ankle weights.

if it's working for you to make ur butt bigger then no if it's not workign and making your butt firmer but smaller (that's what i heard it does) then yes HUGE injustice.

go bigger than 1lb at least 10lb to start

Save your money & buy adjustable dumbbells hun..so your not limited to those 2 sizes. You can buy on Amazon for a great price. The ones I have range from 5 to 100lbs.

I need adjustable dumbbells. Almost bought them once, although I'm glad I didn't, 'cuz this townhouse is already so small and cramped full of stuff, there's really nowhere to keep this sort of thing. :/ The 5lb dumbbells I have are on the bottom shelf of the tv stand. =_=

I have been doing heavy weights (well heavy for me) starting from 40 lbs and now at 60 lbs for 1 month now. My butt is a lil lifted and rounder but not much. I will b starting the challenge tomorrow of 2 weeks heavy w/less weights, then the 3rd week dropping the weights w/more reps and see if this makes a difference!

Hmmmmmmmm this thread was an interesting read from start to finish :-) the idea of dropping weights the 3rd week seems really interesting and i may give it a try. Need to read up a lil more.

* Ladies who are DIYers this thread has helpful ideas for working out at home/ no gym/ no weights and has some creative squatting exercises *

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9229304/Light-weights-better-than-heavy-for-building-muscle.html

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-07-25/health/sc-health-0725-muscle-20120725_1_lighter-weights-heavier-weights-heavy-weights

Wow so i googled " build bigger muscle with light and heavy weights"

and all the results that came up are from spring and summer 2012, a lot of them are news articles saying studies show you can achieve similar muscle growth with light weights and more reps. The key is to work out until fatigue. If you workout to fatigue 3 sets w/ a lighter weight, you are working the muscle more than doing one set to fatigue with a heavier weight. (which makes me think what would happen if you did 3 sets of heavy weights til failure, but nevermind for now). The major difference between lifting lighter weights is the muscle isnt as strong, but from what im reading you can get it just as big. I think a combo of lifting heavy w/ increasing weights 2x a week with some no-weight/ high rep exercises til failure would have the best results..... The hard part is giving your booty enough rest to grow.

:o

hmmmmmm.
