For a lot of women this is how they cope and it brings them some closure. When it happens in the hospital, the baby is prepared for viewing and the family is allowed to bond. They may also opt to name the baby and take photos. Some women feel that they need that for closure. It makes the experience real for them especially since they carried the child but didn't get to see the baby live.
