I have a dilemma. I've been washing my hair every week and moisturizing and sealing almost everyday or every other day. I just washed my hair on Saturday, yet my scalp has dandruff.CryConfused I don't understand what the problem is bc my scalp isn't dry!! What should I do? What am I doing wrong? Should I use another oil for my scalp? I'm using hot six oil right now... please help me out ladies if you can.

I do an ACV rinse on my hair before I shampoo then follow with a peppermint shampoo bar...I do this weekly...and since then I have been flake free

I wonder if you've just got buildup on your scalp. You do wash your hair pretty regularly. Try clarifying (or doing an ACV rinse) and see if anything changes. When I wash my natural hair weekly, I have to clarify every 4 weeks otherwise I'll start piling on buildup from my conditioners and any other products I use.

What is ACV? And do you recommend a particular clarifying shampoo?

ACV = Apple Cider Vinegar.

I massage my scalp thoroughly with Sulphur 8 Anti-Dandruff Conditioner every few days when I braid my hair and wash my hair w/ Selsun Blue Dandruff Shampoo. Doing this has helped tremendously; no more dandruff. But my flakes were caused by over-processed relaxers. I used to leave them in for too long so it burned my scalp. I still do this step even though I have BC'd.

Well, I've only ever used the Pantene Pro-V Clarifying shampoo. There might be better ones out there. I've been also eyeing off the Herbal Essence Drama Clean shampoo lately (since I love the Hello Hydration line). Other than that, I think the only other one that I've read good reviews about was the Kinky Curly Come Clean shampoo.

I appreciate all the help ladies and I'm going to go out and pick up some clarifying shampoo immediately. I'll also be getting the apple cider vinegar. Thanks.

Oil can contribute to dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis symptoms. See the causes and treatment sections of this page:
 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001959/

Some oils are going to make the problem worse, and some oils with antifungal properties (such as tea tree oil) may help. Try Googling "dandruff and oil."
