I applied hair grease to my ends to avoid overlapping onto previously relaxed hair and did an Aphogee treatment a week before. I also didn't wash or touch my scalp for 1 week before the relaxer, and applied a lot of Vaseline to my scalp.

Quick question. Don't the Vaseline slow down the perm process? I am going to perm my hair after about 8 months and I am going to try a lye. I know I have to protect the scalp with lye but I also want a good perm. I usually burn fast. Can someone suggest something to protect the scalp or should I use Vaseline.

Great advice.....I've never done Aphogee, I use ORS Mayo......but any medium to heavy protein is good at least a week b4 u relax..............I have extremely sensitive scalp...........do not comb or scratch or irritate ur scalp for as long before u relax as possible, at least 24 hrs.............coat  the scalp w/ vaseline it's good and heavy, plus the "scalp protectors" are basically petroleum any way so why pay more when u can buy vaseline for like $1, but only previously relaxed hair and the scalp.............NOT NEW GROWTH bc it will slow the straightening process and u will need to leave the relaxer in longer which is not an option if u burn easy.... Let us know how it goes

When I used to relax, a week before I would pre-poo and deep condition my hair. The whole process took me 3 hours! I would use a dime size amount of regular conditioner on my hair daily up until I relaxed it. I also was very heavy handed with oil on the ends of my hair. I noticed my hair remained strong all throughout the process when I did that! My hair would come out bouncier, softer and shinier then before! Sometimes I really miss my relaxing days!Confused
