Have you ever been in a situation where there is one manipulative family who constantly spreads dirt about you behind your back? I am sort of in a situation like this. Is it really hard to outdo an entire family perception of you.
It is kind of hard for me b/c as I mentioned in a previous thread, my fathers side of the family lives in the Caribbean. My cousin Sade seems to have major pull on the family with her opinions and it does not help since i live in the US. So for years she would continue to lie and exaggerate all of my inadequacies to her friends and family and my family would believe it all. My cousin is the biggest busbody and seems very obessed with detail in my life. Throughout the years that i distanced myself from her she always seemed to reach out to me in hopes of us to clear the air and have a good relationship, but I never relented b/c I never trusted her. She had a baby 2 years ago and I decided to let bygones be bygones and feed her with a long spoon. Only for me to realize that she fished to find out a particularly personal yet embarrssing situation I was in. She decided to spread all of the news like wildfire to my family in the Caribbean.
It is just so much damage I have to undo b/c these people seem to have a set perception of me given by her. It's hard b/c I want my family to get to know the real me. not the person she has portrayed me to be...... any voices of reason here?
