The baby wanted it's mother even after the abuse just like some abused children will love and protect an abusive parent. 
This is too sad for me tonight but I'm glad the Baby Ellie is well.

I wonder if captivity had anything to do with it

And whether not seeing similar experiences in the wild caused such a response

^^yeah I think that was mentioned, sometimes living in captivity forces them into 'unnatural' behaviour that wouldn't be seen in the wild

I came in this thread mad as sh*t. and then I read the article I was like Ermm. THen I saw the pic I was like what an ugly little thang. Confused Then i saw the pic of it crying and I felt so bad for the little thang.Cry

Looking at those poor elephants make me think about balls. Their skin look like scrotum skin
