Aunt, uncle of 49ers' Delanie Walker killed by drunken driver after Super Bowl
San Francisco 49ers tight end Delanie Walker
is mourning the loss of his aunt and uncle after the couple was killed
by a suspected drunk driver hours after watching their nephew play in
Super Bowl XLVII.
Alice and Bryan Young were parked on the right of Interstate 10
about 15 miles outside New Orleans when Nechole Thomas, 26, hit them as
she swerved off the highway around 5:30 a.m. Monday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Alice and Bryan Young, the aunt and uncle of 49ers tight end Delanie
Walker, were killed in a car accident by a suspected drunk driver early
Monday morning outside New Orleans after attending the Super Bowl.
Walker shared the news this morning on his Twitter and Instagram accounts:
“Alice and bryan young my aunt and uncle was killed on Monday at 5 am
after the super bowl by a drunk driver… We lost some good people they
will be missed i love y’all so much..”
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune,
the Youngs were inside their car on the shoulder of Interstate 10
around 5:30 a.m. when Nechole Thomas, 26, driving a 2002 Mercedes C230, plowed into the back of their
2012 Nissan Altima at a “high rate of speed.” Thomas, from Houston, was
arrested on two counts of vehicular homicide, DWI and reckless operation
of a vehicle after the accident in St. Charles Parish.
Both cars caught fire. Thomas, who sustained minor injuries, was able to exit her vehicle.
Walker’s agent, Vincent Taylor, said the Youngs were driving back to
their hotel in or around Baton Rouge. They spent time with Walker and
other family members after the Super Bowl.
This morning, 49ers owner Jed York expressed his condolences, via
Twitter: “Thoughts & prayers go out to @Dwalk46 We are praying for
you and your family.”
