well...if we live together, of course, i will let him know if i will be stepping out.   but it's not like he would be able to prevent me from going for no good reason.

i think is fine. 

but it depends on person...i dated a guy who always made plans for us together. If he got invited to a party..he always would always take it as both us were invited.

its not about asking for permission, its about seeing yourself as a part of a unit.
