Why start a whole new thread just to ask one question?

Now I know we all have questions at one point or another. and usually just ask them in a challenge we are in. but what happens when you want a larger base of advise, opinions and tips from more than just the ppl in the challenge?

So i say, ask your questions here so that any and everyone may answer!!!

TWO REQUESTs: 1. Please Be Polite with Your Responses, 2. please do some online research about ur question first ( as most answers will be based off personal experiances follow all/any ADVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK.).

I want this thread to be friendly and helpful

OK so i'll go first. To ALL the henna user's

i want to henna for the first time on mon, but i really have no idea what to really expect. is there anything i should add or not add to the mixture so its no to difficult to rinse out. what have u found to work best for u?

i was thinking about mixing it in the hot water add some honey, a tad bit of lemon juice a some conditioner, maybe some essential oils and let it sit over night on sun and apply mon morning and leave it in for at least 3hrs but im hoping 5hrs. and DC afer i rinse it out.

also have any one not experienced the loosening of the curl pattern i like my curl pattern the way it is. if i loosend a tiny bit i could deal with that but im hoping i dont get any straight ends i see some ppl complain about.

i'll be using it for strength purposes hoping to combat/prevent spit ends

Thank you in advance!

Overall, my henna experience has been nothing but positive .
  • I  use it to cover my white sproutlets & for no other reason
  • I mix with water only - in the past, I have added amla powder in attempts to darken my results
  • I leave it in my hair 6 hrs max - hennaforhair.com -last time was 10 hrs too too long
  • I have better results if I use a protein treatment after henna.  I wait 1 or 2 weeks because both are lengthy processes that require sinful amts of water to remove.
  • I don't bother to shampoo first.  I discovered there really is no point
  • I don't deep condition after tx.  I rinse extensively until water seems almost clear then f/u with V05.  Once it's all removed i'll use a leave-in
  • I don't seem to experience excessive dryness.  If this is helpful, Im a 4 head.  So it is no more or less dry.

Also, lately I've been mixing & applying henna to other ladies' hair.

  • My sister didn't like the color results for her hair but once it was styled by a beautician friend as twistout - she & others loved it.
  • A friend told me tuesday night that her hair was softer after the henna mix I made for her last friday.  she kept it in 4 hrs & I rinsed it out for her w no problem
  • 3-4 mths  I did the same basic mix for someone who was not wowed by the results.  I encouraged her to try a rinse.  A mutual acquaintance does this & has improved her color alot.
I hope you like your results.  Don't forget to post an update.

I'd like to say that your mix sounds fine but I'll advice you to only add water and the lemon juice for colour release and when you are about to apply you can add honey.

It works best without the conditioner in the mix. You can use it rather when you are rinsing it out.

henna is messy so wear gloves during the application process or your hands will be stained orange.

I"ve been using it for years to strengthen my hair and to colour it.

It has not changed my curl pattern and I'm a 4ab.
It is drying and a moisturising DC is highly recommended.
I find it cleansing so shampooing prior to application is not necessary.

I have a question regarding glycerin and vegetable glycerin.  Latey, I've been reading and watching a lot of homemade condtioner recipes in which most (if not all) used vegetable glycerin as one of the ingredients.  I've only used glycerin in my conditoner and got nice results. Is one more beneficial than the other or is it just personal preference?
