I use cones. I agree that they do build up in your hair, which could trap moisture out of your hair if you don't clarify often enough.  I agree with neekie, experiment a little and see what works for you. Good luck!

I love silicones for giving me slip, shine and the appearance of healthier hair. However, they can become a problem if you aren't properly moisturizing or clarifying.

Once you clarify and use silicones in moderation. I do not see a problem with using products with Silicones.  There are different types of silicones, some people's hair do not do well with Amodimethicone aka Trimethylsilylamodimethicone .

ITA- after experimenting, you find what works for you. For example, some hair types cannot take strong protein on the regular, but my hair, it LOVES a strong protein treatment once a week! Unfortunately most of what we learn is through trial and effort.

I love cones! They're good stuff and I don't believe the hype saying they're bad (but I do wash often and clarify a few times a month).

Right now cones are my best friend and the only thing besides co-washing that's getting me thru to the end of my stretch (i'm 26 weeks post) b/c they make detangling a breeze.

I use products with cones. I have contemplated trying to go coneless...and I did for about a week, but my hair was hard. So I have been using cones and not having problems. My hair is not dry and soaks up the moisture I put in it.

I do do a ACV rinse once a week and shampoo once a week with Sauve HUmectant Shampoo. I also cowash every other day or two.

I also notice my hair doesn't need protein a lot...I do light protein, but no special protein treatment.
