It urks me when people equate Christianity with White Supremacy

I guess the Africans that followed Jesus Christ hundreds of years before the slave trade were just tools of the "massas" that hadn't yet existed Wacko

I shared the article because it summed up my view on the holiday... I don't need a "black" alternative to Christmas... it's a religious holiday, heavily commercialized, but religious nonetheless and has nothing to do with race in my eyes. My education about Black/African history and culture is ongoing, I don't need a few days or a single month set aside to recognize where I come from.
I could care less if white people started celebrating Kwanzaa by the masses, I still wouldn't. The founder of Kwanzaa wrote a book, The Quotable Karenga, and bashed Jesus/Christianity in it. No thanks.

your first sentence is where the problem begins.

Kwanzaa is not supposed to be an alternative for anything.
Many of the ppl that I know that celebrate it-- also celebrate Christmas.
There are not holidays that have to exist mutually exclusive of each other

When you light your candle for NIA--- the christmas police wont knock on your door and set fire to your house.

also the  -- I dont need a few days out a month to teach me about africa sentiment makes me laugh as well. Its like ppl who argue-- we dont need black history month-- i study my black history all 12 months... ermmmmmmmm again-- no one is saying you can only care about your culture for the week of kwanzaa.
I study my history all year long..having a week or a month wont put a damper in my life. No one shuts down my studies March 1st...or once the Imani candle burns out.
There is nothing wrong IMO about putting a little more emphasis on those special occassions. We hardly get any shine in this country to begin with...and to start shutting ppl down with nonsensical reasons is what i think ppl who most hate persons
that look like you and me-- want the most.

If you dont want to celebrate it--- sure.
but this reasoning ---and this is no shade to you specifically---is like a circle of fail to me- that I hear repeated all the time.

Wrong!

Does anyone even know what the word "religion" means?

Please tell me what diety this so called religion is asking you to obey?

UM, NONE.

Feel free to criticize, but be accurate. It has never been about religion.

I think all religion is a crock of bullsh*t.
But let us not pretend like religion wasn't a tool used to enslave Africans during slavery.

The word religion comes from the greek or Latin....I'm not googling it right now since it is too late but I believe "reli" means to "hold or bind". And if you think about the minds of some of these folk, you see that it does exactly that.

But Karenga said so in his own book Confused

Don't get crunk with me, take it up with him. I did an in-dept study on his creation of Kwanzaa in one of my Africana Studies courses and I clearly read about his original intentions with the "holiday"

People may not practice it that way... it's usually b/c they're extremely ignorant about it's inception in the first place but that doesn't mean it wasn't intended to be something else

its just so ass backwards to me patti--

b/c the ppl who are always first to shut down holidays like Kwanzaa are the same ppl who are like
" where the 4th of july bbq at?"
"who making the greens on thanksgiving?"

and dont get me wrong..b/c this negro right hurr
loves Potato salad...and sweet potato pie.

but its like ppl and their google button only work on holidays that are supposed to celebrate black ppl.
lets just  ignore that july 4th 1776--no one that looked liked u was declared free of anything in this country.

or pilgrims weren't truly breaking bread w/ anyone one of my ppl-- or PPl that didn't look exactly like them for that matter (fawk the natives)

I know the true meaning behind those holidays--- and I celebrate them still-- because I give them my own meaning....

why is it so hard for ppl to pull the same tactic w/ kwanzaa.

Black people subconsciously hate themselves.
It has been ingrained in us that nothing we do is ever good or good enough.
