Ig hair vendors really irk my nerves to no end. I can ask "do you carry closures" they would either respond with "yes DOLL" or "no DOll" or something else like "how can I help you LOVE". I'm grown. I don't know if it's just me irritated today or what. But that annoys the hell out of me. DOLL...ughhhhh

Not a fan of pet names or cutesy derivatives of that nature myself.  I find it condescending.

Perhaps they are influenced by those Kardashian women.

It is a Eurocentric thing. White women are usually not offended by that rather they usually expect to be treated very femininely unless they are women's libbers. Once a tow truck driver was late to get my car and he tried to make it up using those type of words with me. I found myself getting annoyed with him too. I thought, you think I'm that dumb that I will forget I am mad w/ you bc you use those words? I also thought, I am not on that kind of time with you and I am married!

It can be annoying but it's used in both ways over here, both condescendingly and not. I've experienced both. When it's used negatively I generally ignore it. If it's not, then I don't mind. "Love" "Darlin'" "Sweetheart" etc are all common, especially in the East End, which is where I live.

ETA Girls use some of these pet names amongst each other as well LOL. Also, I had a postman who was a white guy a few years ago who used to call me "princess". I didn't mind - he was really hot LOL.
