i took their comments to mean they were trying to say that she gave up on the "country thang" when it didn't work out for her. and now she was trying to do a mix of country/soul...when country was really her first heart. |
thats what i think too. that's why i think they were coming from a positive place and i like the read mariah had on nicki about focusing on voices and not their outfits.

Nicki was actually the logical one here, surprisingly
They were being extra with "Country thang" girl

not really. they actually helped her by allowing her to explain herself and at the same time, they gave her advice and guidance. her comment in front of a country singer judge was almost as if she didn't respect the craft. like she didn't take country music serious and only sang it because it was something to do. like others have said, nicki was doing the most for the cameras. this show is falling by the wayside and they need as much drama as they can get.

nicki had a point...they all showed their asses... | i agree. especially about that part about making them lie about what they do/like. neeeeever thought i would side with nicki but she had a point this time.i kinda feel like eventually they wouldve told her no and to go pursue a country idol instead.

Yup. It was obvious that the girl felt under pressure to retract her previous statement. I have no particular opinion on Nikki, I never really followed her, nor do I watch American Idol anymore. But from that clip, she sounded like she had a point. The way she stormed out was extra but her comment was spot on, imo

Not gonna lie, if Nicki wasn't a judge I probably wouldn't watch anymore
She's the only interesting person left on this show and her critiques aren't too off base either

From what I saw in the clip... Nikki was right on this one! I was thinking the exact same thing before the judges even started commenting. The girl starts out saying that she wants to infuse a little more soul into her country style and right away, the others wanted to pidgeon-hole her. Doesn't she get any say in who she wants to be as an artist??? |
Isn't the point of this show to pick someone to give a record contract to? Someone they feel they can market? In that case. No.

I disagree. This is a talent competition but talent is lost when the sole objective is to mold someone to death according to a predetermined formula. That is why most music sucks these days. Everything is pre-packaged to death and there is no room for innovation. There can't be nothing worst for an artist to be told that your artistic approach won't even be the slightest bit entertained. And it's not good for music.

And let me add that the music industry has lost its way from all this marketing. If some of the legends of yesteryear were forced into that cookie cutter model, a lot of talent would have never seen the light of day

I don't know how any of you can stand Nicki's voice. I like how she sounds in music but her speaking voice is one of the worst i've heard in a long time. Aside from her relevance, I feel that Nicki was brought in to boost up the energy of the judging panel and some comic relief. They could've just found a known icon with a really dynamic personality and done away with the 4 judge thing.
