My daughter best friends grandmother brought me some Alma oil. She's indian and her hair is pass her butt. She says thats the only thing she uses after she washes her hair every Sunday and then braid it. She says all the women in her family uses it. Does anyone have any experience with it or know any Indian women who uses it.

I actually bought some amla oil that I've never opened or used (I've had it for years)...

But, I am currently using an indian oil blend with amla in it...

Honestly, other than the smell and the staining, it's been working well with my hair. It makes it soft, eliminates shedding, etc. I use it alone and in my conditioner...

I honestly have heard nothing but positive things about amla oil...

There are some ladies on this forum that have used it w/great success though...

I am someone that follows traditional indian herbal haircare. I make my own herbal wash mix and oil by hand. These are the only two products that I use besides hennaing once a month and I can tell you that amla oil and amla period is great.

I have tried it.  I used it as a preshampoo more than anything.  I originally used the Dabur Amla oil and the smell is strong and it offended folks around me.  So I used it as a preshampoo.  It did help with the shedding but I stopped using Dabur Amla oil because of the whole "mineral oil is bad" trend.  Recently I discovered that mineral oil wasn't harming my hair but the only place to get it locally is on the north side of my city and that is a drive for me.  So I will wait when I happen to be in the area.  Currently I am using the Mahabhringaraj oil that contains amla oil and so far my hair doesn't shed like a sick cat.  Still has that strong herbal smell that some folks would find disagreeable, but I usually shampoo it out.

I use the amla oil as a pre poo. I can't take the smell although it seems to do good things.
My regimen has stopped my shedding, moisture issues and breakage so I don't think I will need to repurchase.
It's the mineral oil in it that is probably helping a lot of people, it gets a bad rap but it can help a lot of people with their hair issues temporarily.
