Shocked I never heard of this before. I was watching FamilyGoingNatural's latest video and the mother had an allergic reaction to some hair she had braided into hers...and she talked about B. Scott being allergic to a wig or weave and another lady on YT having the same experience. This lady was falling out!  I was just like, "Wow! I never knew!"

Anybody here experience this or heard of anyone else that it has happened to? I thought I'd bring it up here in case someone used synthetic hair in a protective style. Here's the video...be careful ladies.

this can happen when you dont properly pre-treat the hair prior to using it... like for me before I knew about this weaves and braids would itch the crap out of me but when I learned about clarifying the hair (baking soda + vinegar, etc you know how to do that) I no longer had that issue.

IMO its rare that youll ACTUALLY be allergic to synthetic hair unless you are allergic to synthetic materials in general (like clothes) because they are esentially the same thing.. synthetic.

i read in Robins grow a fro hair long webstie the the allergic reaction that some ppl get from synthetic hair is from the alkaline chemical in the hair and the best way to remove alkaine from the hair is by simply rinsing the hair[synthetic hair] with vinegar for a while

hmmm..never tried rincing the hair with vinegar but my hypersensitive skin breaks out at the sight of synthetic hair. One time i got my hair braided in cornrows with synthetic hair and within 4 hours I had to take it out. My neck tuned bright red and broke into a rash where the hair fell and my scalp was itchy as hell. I also wear synthetic hairpieces but try not to let it touch my skin for the same reasons.

But as I said my skin is super sensitive.

The vinegar rinse seems to be worth investigating tho.

The first few times I got box braids in highschool my collar area broke out like crazy.  but after awhile I swear my body got used to it b/c it doesn't happen.

I keep forgetting to twist my kinky twist hair. and they bother me to death until the first time I co-wash my hair (about a week after I finish the style)

It is possible, I've had a wig (synthetic) that irritated my neck.  After a wash, it stopped.  You never know what they put on them before you get them.
