Man, the arts stay loosing. Thing is, there are infinite studies linking art and cognitive development.

The link between math and music is practically concrete.

I just can't. I think I understand what they are TRYING to say, however based on what they have written they are severely misinformed, and therefore have no business running a school.

If the parents want dancing and singing they should put them in a performing arts school.

So you don't let your kids (or future ones) participate in special school programs then?

I'm all for academics and give my kids homework on top of their school homework.  I also support their creative abilities and forms of art (music, children's choir) which grows their self esteem and confidence.

I completely agree with you....and this is what extracurricular activities are for... ie-piano lessons, art classes, dance (tap, jazz, ballet) etc.... Just like parents but their kids in soccer and football they can put them artsy stuff as well outside of school.

When I have kids...i will let them participate but I wouldn't depend on the school to do this though.

I'm surprised white people are mad...they hella pressed about kids in kindergarten. My sis is an administrator at a public elementary school in manhattan and those parents are a trip. If the kids aren't performing Beethoven, dancing a classic ballet suite or singing in mandarin the parents aint for it

One or two lil ol' school plays ain't gone hurt the school nor would it mean parents are depending on the school IMO

A day of fun is going to greatly impede their chances at higher education in 13 years?

See, this is what's wrong with America's educational system: It treats schools like a factory and kids like products like an assembly line. Students aren't taught to learn or have a passion for learning. They're taught to memorize and regurgitate memorized knowledge. It's why some students cheat. It's why students are highly stressed. It's why students go out into the real world not knowing what the hell to do to take care of themselves because their place of education didn't teach them more interpersonal but still vital knowledge.

American schools also seem to have a desire to take away or limit all that is fun for students. Art and music classes are now the usual casualties of budget cuts in schools and other schools LESSEN break time/lunch time/recess. That's unnecessary, you work hard, you benefit from playing hard. All work and no play really does make Jack a dull boy.

These children can't even get a single day out of 365 dedicated to pure fun and this is supposed to be normal?

How many of us learned the alphabets by singing ABCDEFG…
Sad that kindergardeners must be limited because a that age music is a major learning tool.

The thing about school is that it needs to have a little bit of everything.
You'll never know what you're good at unless you're exposed to it.
