My natural hair is ALMOST shoulder length but not quite.  I was looking into the donut/sock method to save my ends from this for-ever changing weather and thought to do this style.

I have searched youtube for a fake ponytail and donut method but have been unable to find one.

Anyone know of a pictorial or video showing how to create a donut/bun with a fake ponytail/ hair piece?

thanks!

I too have this problem. Not enough hair to get my ends around the donut. So I'll be paying attention to this thread

June, that is a very nice video. That's not what I'm looking for, but I think I will try it!

Yes, Cincy...my issue is possibly not enough hair to actually go over the bun and tuck under.

I think what I will try is to blow dry my hair and then proceed.  I just do not like blow drying my natural 4b/c hair.

So me being the bandwagon jumper that I am I ran out and grabbed some dread loc hair and tried this updo. I got it all, but that darn figure 8!
It looked stupid. I'll try it again tomorrow. LOL I've stretched mine and tried a smaller sock bun, didn't work for me

use a smaller sock bun. if you make it yourself, then you can determine the thickness.

what I started doing lately is put my hair in the bun, then bobby pin the tracks around the base. when I run out of hair, I just twist the weave hair around the sock bun to cover up the tracks. I'm terrible at explaining; maybe I'll make a video one day, lol.

ChulyDarlyn used to have another way to do the sock bun that makes it look thicker but I can't seem to find it. but I don't know how well it works because I haven't tried it yet. basically she put her hair into a ponytail, then she rolled her hair through the donut until it reached the base. again, I suck at explaining, so maybe you can find it Tongue
