Topic: A$AP Rocky Apologizes to Jason Collins Posted: Sep 11 2013 at 3:51am |
A$AP Rocky wants you to know that he’s not gay, and he’s nowhere near homophobic.Last month, he drew a few snickers from the audience at the MTV Video Music Awards while standing next toNBA baller Jason Collins in one of the most awkward moments of the night. The two were paired up to introduce Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ live performance of the pro gay rights song, “Same Love,” and A$AP looked clearly uncomfortable as Jason (who is openly gay) talked about discrimination against gays. When it was time for Rocky to talk, he plugged his friend’s new album before introducing Macklemore by saying, “The next artist stands up for everything he believes in as far as everybody being equal: color,” then he paused and pointed at Jason and said “homosexuality!”In a recent interview with The Stashed, A$AP said the he is aware that his actions looked bad on camera and already apologized to Jason for how it came across. A$AP also said he’s not homophobic because he has gay family members, but he questioned why MTV would have him standing next to a gay man talking about gay rights to introduce a song known as the gay anthem of 2013.“I’m mad that my facial expressions was like that because I’m not homophobic at all, and that whole thing just came off real homophobic. I didn’t really notice it until I got home and saw it. I apologize to Jason for that, because people was laughing and s–t, and you know… I really don’t think that’s funny. I saw they were making all the memes and pictures and making fun of him. There’s people out there that think I was doing that to be funny, and truthfully I got gay people in my family. I don’t give a f–k if you gay or you not, I just found it odd that MTV wanted to stand me next to this n—a when they are talking about gay people, that’s all. You know what I’m saying?”

Yesssss, he looked hella biased at that moment, but seeing him explain why he had those expressions.. I'd be confused too.
MTV didn't tell him what he and Jason were going to be discussing? If the dude was out of the loop, I'd understand his expression. However, the distancing of himself was a rather uncomfortable reaction, regardless.

I pointed it out when I watched it, like "damn, did he really point to Jason and say homosexuality...?"
That awkward pause before he said it too. Really came off like he was tyring to say "hey everyone. Don't be confused by the hair. He's the gay one. Not me."
