thats a patronising assumption of brotherhood.
is it not that obvious? |
This is the Op's post. Please underline what's patronizing about it because all I see is cultural curiosity and interest in his ancestry "I had a DNA test earlier this year and it gave me results of the country I'm most genetically similar to in Africa. So, when I'm building with my African brothas and sistas from this specific country and I tell them this they brush me off and say slick ish like "I know what "" look like and you don't look like us" or "yeah yeah that's unlikely". Why won't my brothas and sistas accept me? It's not like I'm trying to front like I'm from the country, just that my ancestors are most likely from this place." |
did you forget the bit that comes before the bold?
why wont my brothers and sistas accept me?
|
I don't think OP means that litteraly in the sense of why won't they throw a party in my honour. He probably just felt dismissed and disdained when he was just expressing curiosity. Years go, I met a girl from cameroon at the hair shop, a foreign student. The salon owner was african and she assumed I was also. As I'm talking to my hairdresser, I'm mentioning something about my family and she realizes I'm west indian and she tells me she didn't realize there were people who looked like me in Haiti. We just struck a conversation and I explained the history of the place. End of story. She had this idea that all west indians were light skinned blacks because it was her first forray here. Nothing to get salty about.

| With all due respect sir, you probably got a sh!tload of holes and rips in your muscle shirt with all this reaching
I don't find this patronizing at all. If I'm speaking with so-called Haitians and I recently found out that I'm a so called Haitian, is it wrong to refer to them as my *Haitian accent* bwodder or seeestar? Yea, that last bit of my post was patronizing lol
