^^^Right! I think I'll always SMH @ stuff like that. Like I said : Her prob...not mine.

Ummmm...something else that I have to get comfortable with is being known as the 'lady with THE hair'. Ya know how the busty ladies detest being known for the girls, welllll... I understan where they are coming from.

Don't get me wrong... I'm flattered, but I feel like folk act like I'm some exotical mythical creature. Standing in line, folk all in my personal space- allll up on my back. Folk discussing my hair. Its rather old. I know some folk haven't seen a Black woman with real hair, but sheesh it aint THAT rare.

Embrace your fabulouslessness , you'll get use to the fawning some day, comes with the territory gurllll.

As for me, I've been wearing my hair out a bit more and those that are unaware of my hair texture ask loads of questions, I am glad to have the answers to them. And yes the request to feel it has been asked and granted, so her dry hands got naturally moisturized so it was all good.

With the weather the coconut oil takes a while to melt in my hands and also been showing itself in my hair so I figured I'd add sunflower oil to my hair as well to seal in moisture, but I kinda overdid it, which was ok since I was able to just scrunch my hair if I needed a skin lotion hahahahah( seriously the coconut oil wasn't doing much for my elbows with this weather and the hard water, so I needed to re-moisturize now and then. So I guess I'll just buy the lotion from a small test bottle I tried recently, but yea ok back to hair talk...), anyway, so my hair remained moisturized throughout the day, it's just a bit greasy so I will know for next time to not over do it, trial and error I guess.

So I guess with sunflower oil being cheap over here I will stock up on that to seal, since I did not experience any drying effects so far(perhaps due to the coconut oil combo...I am yet to test the sunflower oil on it's own.).

Oh and also before sealing I had added some honey water(honey mixed in to filtered water)to my hair.

So yea no complaints so far.

Nay, u loling, but I gotta thang bout personal space. Whew, I have NO desire to feel someone other than the Hubby's breath on my neck! Step baaaack!

Ritle-Skittle- I sure have been embracing my fabu- ness!! Lol!! I did with Curly Cleo, but its a whole other level with Straight Cleo. But, most would attribute this to her length and straight factor, but there not the only reasons. Its also bc I thought devising a reggie for Straight Cleo was gonna be tres difficult. But, true to my lazy yet effective reggie curly, it works straight too. So, since I conquered my initial anxiety about 'going straight', I feel more confident styling and caring for her too.

Speaming of moisturization,Ritle, you ain't nevah lied bout the cold! Its been freezing! So, I find myself moisturizing more often and curling my hair on satin rollers. I may wear her down 1-2 xs a week. But she's usually up. Heavy sealing has been my friend too. So, I feel you on the greasiness. Cleo feels moisturized even up til the pm moisturization. But, I have to be more heavy handed with the ends.

Yea, I just realized I might have used the wrong word, greasy is more sticky like, so slightly oily might be a better word, but awe well whatever, lol.

And yay at styling confidence, nothing beats the knowing what your hair can do and then knowing what your hair WILL do, because then you can flaunt your stuff without worrying too much about what's going on in the back of your head (at times literally).
It's quite liberating.

So true about being heavy handed with the ends while wearing a straight style, I'd tuck my ends at night when I slept with it in two braids.

Since it's just freezing now and the snowing it self has stopped (though the snow remains on the street, I could give a shot at wearing my hair in a straight style once again, but for now I'm just going to wait it out a bit and in the mean time try to think of a few different styles I could wear my hair in while in curly mode. I am secretly in the mood to wear some different straight styles than just the waves too though.

I guess I just miss having it brushing my shoulders and such, I'm such a length-enthusiast...pfff....

The two loose buns method for sleeping is still working out great for me by the way, it also allows me to already have my hair in two sections in the morning so it's even easier to deal with in case of re-wetting under the shower or for wash days.
Pineapple method might be for me once my unstretched hair is the length of my stretched hair, but right now my hair holds styles it should not be holding and I don't want to have a struggle to bring it back down in the morning.

I hear you Ritle. This weather has been weird in these parts. We had an extremely mild winter initially, but now we're getting snow and freezing temps. So, although Cleo is straight, I stay with a hat on my head, which can  be drying. But, surprisingly, my crown and mid strands are  cool. Its those ends that I have to keep my eyes on, since 2-3xs a week, I wear her down. So, you know Cleo is brushing on collars of coats and shirts, etc. So, I know that I have to up my moisturization game. I'm also loving the stain rollers (to a point) bc they keep my hair off my shoulders (for a time), but bc of the weight of my hair and the moisture in the air, the curls fall and end up on my shoulders and beyond.

I moisturized, sealed, and rolled her up tonight. My wash day is supposed to be this weekend, but I'm pushing her back bc I 'm lazy after dealing with a sick child for a week  and I fell down the steps on Wed(don't even know that happenedLOL). So, I'm nursing my woundsLOL

OUCH!@ falling down the steps, that sucks, hope you'll heal from it soon.

It is a good thing that I put off using heat to wear my hair straight, because it's snowing again.

It's good that your crown and mid strands remain moisturized while wearing a hat. Whenever I knew I was going to keep on a hat, I would wear a stocking(well it functions as a "satin head wrap" till I can get one, they don't sell them in my town and I have to make sure to remember to get one when I'm out of town.) over my head under it, no one could see it and my hair remained protected unlike without it, but that's because those hats are from wool.

I will have to check the satin rollers out, they look comfortable to sleep with and hair seems to be kept in place easier.

And yea holding a straighter style in this weather is not easy at all.

I am trying to find out what works with my hair in a way that it feels properly moisturized, my crown is the most difficult to moisturize and that part can make or break an open style. So with my hair divided in two sections it's been a bit easier to moisturize that section better, but I am still not there yet where sealing is concerned.

I guess I will have to experiment a bit because moisturized hair and product residue is not where it is at either.

So I've just been going with what looks good and feels okay till I've discovered something that makes it look perfect(for the way it is) and feel perfect(for the way it should be feeling).

I had two experiences that had me going "ehhhhhhh". First was at a friend's party where these two cousins kept asking me if my hair was real. Then at some point, they started examining my scalp. Very thoroughly. Dead I probably should have stopped them but I was pretty stunned that they'd dare do something like that, while at the same time a bit amused. I mean really who does that?? After they were done I was pretty annoyed though :P

The second experience I had was when my mom and I were at this beauty store and went to the wig section. Her hair is super long but she gets bored of it and likes to try short hairstyles in the form wigs. This lady in the store suddenly walks up to me asking if my hair was real, then suddenly places both her hands to the sides of my head and pats me down! She did it so quick I didn't even have time to avoid it. Then she walked of without a word, quick as a ninja.

Ritle- I see that your using oils to seal. Do you think incoporating a butter or grease would help keep ya girl moisturized? I only ask bc I noticed awhie back with Cleo that my beloved olive oil worked the best in warmer months. In the colder months, I use grease(eg. VASELINE) or Crisco- nope I don't smell like chicken. Lol!

Darkval- That. Is. Unacceptable !! I am so for teal about PERSONAL SPACE!! Plus, thats just plain gross to DIG in someone's SCALP with their dirty fingers!!

Now, I have co- workers, fam and friends that I have no problem touching my Cleo. Its never intrusive or anywhere near my scalp(except the Hubby when he gives me a scalp massage). They may flick my hair over my shoulder or something of that nature, but nothing like you experienced. U r so better than I would have been!

Today will be wash day for me. I'm trying to decide if I want to wear Cleo curly for the whole week or wear her curly half the week and then straighten her for the last part of the week. But, right now, I'm leaning toward curly for the whole week bc I would have to do a mid week cowash and blowdry. I'm feeling quite lazy bc I think I may finally getting the' heebie jeebie' germs after taking care of my son and lil cuz when they had the flu. Plus, I have a boatload of housework to try and get finished before the Superbowl tomorrow. So, going curly may be where its at.

This week was a big messy bun week. We had days of snow, rain, sleet/ice mix and high humidity. So, the messy high bun was an easy to go to style. I really liked the ease of it. It could be dressed up or down and was 'easy peasy' to pull together. It also worked well at masking my minor reversion. Reversion was minimal even with the wet weather. My nape area started reverting, but not really noticeable. I slacked with my moisturization, but not drastically though. I think that my next time around straight that as the press begins to revert, I'll up the moisture, seal more heavily, and do either a high messy bun or a big side bun which keeps the itchies to a real minimum and gives me another few days of the monthly press.

EEnjoy your weekend, Ladies!
