so what do these people do now? their social security numbers are out there forever now. they'll have to get new ss #'s? what a hassle.
Poor Paris Hilton. she is not even relevant anymore but she's still getting swept up in the nonsense.

I don't remember. Probably though. I didn't give out any of the info |
I know that I'd just never thought about how much access people who work at a bank have before. Got me thinking about what precautions they take for people who would do that.

Back when I was a bank teller, I would type random celebrity names into the system to see who had an account with us.
Had the deets on all kinds of folk including Whitney Houston, Allen Iverson and pretty much the entire 76's team (because they played in the First Union arena I guess most of them had accounts).
I was young, bored and silly. Don't judge me |
i know someone who worked at Terminix that did the same thing. can't trust you negros.

lol coz news is news is news
why censor news? |
If that's the case then why are witnesses allowed to conceal their identities with voice-changers and the like if news is the bottom line?
When privacy is at stake then why not censor the news? |
Thier face and or voice isn't the news though.
|
Exactly, so why further compromise their privacy by verifying the authenticity of the hacked records that are available for public viewing? |
Because the face/name, in this story, IS the news.
|
That's not what I was questioning. My question is why it was made a point to verify that the information is authentic.
If protecting a person without celebrity's privacy is important (face/voice), then why isn't important for one with celebrity?

The news is only taking it's cue from the government. The laws themselves say public figures don't have the same privacy rights as regular civilians. Why? Because they are public figures.

They don't have a right as public figures to keep their any information private? If it's all public, because they're public figures, then I don't see how this is a story. If public figures' information is all public, then how can they be hacked in the first place?

I didn't say their private information is public. But their name isn't private, like a civilians name is.
The news didn't put their information out there. They put the story out that they were hacked, with corroboration from the police. It's news because they are famous and the majority of readers will know them. Unlike Joe Smoe from down the street getting hacked.
