I would try a off cut or if you just want to lighten it slightly you could try the method in the video. I have done this just on the ends for a ombre effect. Subtle. I'm due to wash and do a bleach bath on the unit so if I don't fry it I'll come back and post pics.

I'm trying to dye my extensions an auburn red ...I already tried once and failed (I got some highlights but not all over color)..I knew I was going to have to pre-lighten but I just didn't want to. Don't use more than 20 vol developer don't process more than 30 minute and you can buffer the bleach with conditioner........protein condish not moisture...........it'd it is not already dyed and you can avoid bleach than avoid it. so I just lifted my Wags Malay with a 20 volume and one pack of ultra blue powder.  The color is PERFECT!!! Tongue I will be posting pics soon of the install...the color is similar to Meeka hair on Basketball Wives, a subtle sun kissed brown.  Love it...I also just did the ends to get an Ombre effect instead of highlights. 
 
The malay lifted pretty fast with the twenty volume so if ur doin this ur self be careful if using a 30 or 40 volume.   This thread is a life saver and saved me hella dough on purchasing wags colored hair.  I spent like 3 bucks for all materials YAY!!!

May seem like a silly question, but do I wash/dry the hair after the first step (lifting the black with kaleidocolor) and then use the box kit?? The way I'm hearing it as if it's just a few steps done at one time.
