I very seldom post, but I just had to chime in.  I think MW is absolutely right.  I work in the HR department of my company and I see a change not only in the political arena, but also in the workforce.  More jobs are requiring employees to speak Spanish especially in the services field.  In addition to being bilingual, they also work for less money.  Yep, we're being sidelined and benched for sure.  And besides gotv, we also need more blacks in the Human Resources field.  For some reason, we have very few black people that are doing the hiring in these companies.

I gotta find the article again...but there was a great one comparing voting in the asian (includes korean, chinese, southeast asian, and pacific islander) community here in los angeles county vs. the black community. Apparently both communities have comparable numbers of people who can't vote (asians because of citizenship, blacks because of felony convictions). But the asian community is much smaller and still had much higher turnout even with the significant burden of language barriers. Which they were able to overcome because several asian-immigrant orgs worked in the communities for like a year before the election so that it wouldn't be an issue.

Black people, with no language barrier, and no citizenship barrier, basically just choose not to vote. It's shameful.


Idk there is a considerable amount of ppl who don't vote at all.
And even that number is improving.
2008 was the highest percentage of voter turnout since 1968 I believe.

2012 there was a decline of 13 million voters.
It's something that affects ppl everywhere.

Hell even places where voting is compulsory dont get 100 percent of the electorate.

But I have bigger issues with the candidates and the system we use to vet candidates and the institution itself than those who choose not to vote

Very interesting to see the same people who were raging against voting in the election thread are in here foaming at the mouth Confused.
 It's a game of numbers.  Hispanics will be the majority by 2050 ( or 2030), right now is the time to court their vote.  

They were already labeled "White" in the past census. I am waiting to see when the gringos absorb them and add them to their ranks ( see past immigrant populations), so that they can retain their majority status and privileges.

We do have to do better when it comes to voting and fighting for what we want. The fight is far from over. We can't become placated as many have, just because conditions have improved slightly. We still have to fight for the right to represented and treated equally as everyone should be treated.

As much as I am for black people, I'm for all (minority) people, so it doesn't really bother me. I think all people should have a fair shot at a successful life whether black, latino, asian, etc. Why put one race vs the other, instead of trying to help for the entire immigrant population.
