I think you should evaluate staying or leaving the same way you would if it was Tyrone down the street. In a marriage your spouse should be "normal" and "common" to you, because y'all should have that type of bond. So I believe if you stay because of status, then that means you got up in the hype just as well as your spouse may have.
 
No, I do not think someone's personal faults diminishes their greater cause. We all have some demons we try to move beyond.

But with C/MLK , I saw her as almost as big a part of the movement as MLK was (as much as a woman could have been back then). She was very involved and out there making changes herself. 

A divorce probably would have been like ending her life work along with his. She often spoke about how she was involved with the movement when she met Martin. So this was her 'power' too. I could definitely understand why she stayed married to him for the greater good.  That was a different time too.

eta: and like so many other things that happened back then, I don't know if I could have endured it but in that same situation during that time, I hope I could. In name only...

I have known women who have stayed with very successful men that cheat and I have known women (including me) who have tried but could not stay with the..  My ex was a partner at a very large law firm and was(is) very financially well off but I could not take the cheating.  It started to make me sick to my stomach and paranoid Wacko. if he was MLK, probably. I can see Coretta thinking that a divorce would discredit him and derail the movement. I don't know what she suffered thru, but I'm sure it was a lot.

Not everyone gets married for love...we've discussed it on here before. 

So with that being said....i can't say its a surprise when married people cheat especially those in spotlight. I do believe that often times they look for mates that fit their brand/image/whatever. Having a loving relationship was never in the cards. 

I was reading a wedding story in Essence the other day and the entire article was about the groom and bride dotting on each others accomplishments and professions....and of course the lavish wedding. I'm not saying they didn't love each other...but you could definitely tell that their resumes played a big part in them getting together.

I agree with you jr, but what nancytrillosi is saying, is that because he was a man of God who studied Christianity and knew what was deemed wrong in Christianity that you wouldn't expect him to commit adultery. Adultery is one of the 10 commandments right? 
 you would think that a man who pearch the  word of God  would have self control that as a pastor would lived by fruit of the word and respect his wife. But unfortunately their are some who don't, I just finish watching iyanla vanzant fix my life where she was helping a pastor in Louisiana cope with his cheating ways this man cheat on his wife with 20 other woman and some in the church. We all are guilty of sining it all about the Will Power to over come it.
