i think she was on the spot and didnt know anyone else and put your name down thinking it would never be used.  i know im several peoples emergency contact theyve always told me after the fact.  i usually put down the same 2 people i told them once and they should just take it for granted that their names will be used in the future.

It was very nice what you did. You didn't have to do it but you did. I am sure the little girl was scared. Her mother should have asked you beforehand. I always ask people before I put their name and number down. I see it the same as putting a reference down on a CV. I would find it kind of weird if someone I barely talk to listed me as an emergency contact. Nothing wrong with that. I dont have a problem with her doing that. I just wish she would have told me because I normally turn my phone off at work during a certain time.....I had my phone on only because I was away from my desk so I was caught just in time. I worry for her if they didnt get a hold of me.

Do you drop everything to go tend to them or their needs if you are called?

If someone uses you as an emergency contact should they tell or ask you before listing you????


I got a call from a school today telling me that they are evacuating the building and I have to pick up "Kathy" or they will have to take her downtown. They have been trying to get hold of her mother for 4 hours. When they told me the mothers name it clicked that it was a young woman who temped for a little while at work. She and I clicked but I wouldnt go as far as saying we are the best of friends. I had no idea she listed me as her daughter's emergency contact. I picked the little girl up and kept her with me until I got hold of her mother. Her mother is new to the city and knows no one and said that I am the only person here that she knew and she apologized for not telling me she listed my name and number.


It still weirds me out a little, what if I couldn't get the child?
