I'm brown....and the blacker he is the better. I met my SO in the summer and fell in love with his skin but when the tan goes away....meh.

I think this is true.
My grandmother is light, grandfather is dark they had my father, who is light.
He married my mother, who is  a deep red brown. 
I am light and I much prefer dark men. My bf has the sexiest smooth dark brown skin Big smile.
 
My sister is dark... light or dark, she just likes men in general.

I agree with Becky that many of our preferences are caused by socialization. I don't agree with her that outside of the US, White men are flocking to Black women. Umm actually, you have 2 questions here:
 
- 'How come light women like dark men and dark women tend to like light men?' The answer is obvious. For some people .. opposites ATTRACT. That's why (outside of America) so many White guys are with Black woman and so many White women are with Black men. This is really very basic Psychology 101.

I would think that if the patterns were random, but the patterns are too distinct. I personally think some dark women feel validated when light men like them, for example. Jmo.

This was the same for my grandmother. Living in Virginia, she told her children that white men would harass her for hanging with the kneegrows (her siblings who were darker in complexion) and they would make sexual remarks.  She said she found the darkest man in VA to have her children by.

My father is dark, my mother is light.
My brother is light, his wife is really dark
My other brother is brown, his gf is brown
I'm "yellow" and my husband is "yellow"Confused

But I never had a preference...Light, dark, fat, skinny....I like em all.
