I don't necessarily see anything wrong with it if that's who he falls in love with and wants to spend his life with. There are medications and condoms to prevent transmission for that very reason. Would I do it? Probably not, but if someone else chooses to do it it's not really that big a risk if they take steps to protect themselves. Pretty much every partner we get with is Status: Unknown yet people are so quick to let their juices mingle which is just as bad or worse. There are a lot of people out there who don't know they have it and if they do know they aren't telling. It's up to the individual to protect him/herself.

there's a lot of reckless behavior going on in the hetero community as well when it comes to sex, that's a given, but i'm not sure you get how widespread the idea is with gay men in regards to going fwd with hiv positive partners.
it's not just about people making this decision for someone who will become/is their life partner.  people are making this decision in casual sex situations and short term relationships.  

eta: i do get what you're saying about knowing is basically more than half the battle b/c of the preventative measures you have available but there should be more self preservation than that.

I meant even with protection, you run the risk of the condom breaking and becoming infected. I just wondered if he meant he loved that particular person so much that he would have risked it anyway. Or is he willing to sleep with anyone infected as long as they're honest, and he knows to use protection.

It was more of a rhetorical question cuz I know we can't read his mind. I was just curious.

Frequently testing yourself for HIV when you're in a high risk group (gay men) regardless of your perceived level of risky behavior is actually the gold standard. If you're monogamous, and believe your partner to be monogamous and HIV negative, frequent testing still helps you avoid becoming the jerk who spreads the illness unknowingly. People lie, they get lied to, and you can test negative early on in your infection.

If more people got tested more often, we wouldn't have the infection rates in the black community that currently exist.

This man has just given his future potential partners a fighting chance by being aware of his status. He has also given himself the chance to be treated early. Testing saves lives, it's not something we should judge people for.

Regardless if the person is having unprotected sex with many people or if they are prudes and never have sex, you CANNOT and SHOULD NOT deceive someone about a status like that. If he wants to sleep with men who have HIV its his personal choice but not disclosing the information took away his option to choose to do so. His decision was made for him.

If he wasn't getting tested, yall would have something to say about that. Uncle Poodle seems like the stereotypical gay guy who was just having sex all willy nilly...because if he wasn't that type, why the need to get hiv tests so often (basically monthly)? And if you're that irresponsible to need them monthly, I don't think it's fair to press charges since you're actively and consistently not protecting yourself. At that point, I think you're at least as much at fault.

I can understand this. I don't watch the show so I'm not familiar with his character, but his need to have such frequent STD testing did make me raise an eyebrow. It's obvious that he isn't using protection.

I came in to say something similar. I wouldn't say it isn't right, but it is hypocritical.

He willingly engaged in an activity which he knew could have this outcome. They both participated in the same activity but now one is in trouble and the other isn't. In a way it's absolving him of his own personal responsibility over his health. He knew how to prevent HIV and he chose not to. Pressing charges isn't going to rid him of HIV.
