I use the word. What would I look like criticizing a rapper for using it?

Most rappers put in the 'conscious' rap bubble really hate it. Talib Kweli, Common, Macklemore, Black Thought have all spoken out against being called conscious rappers. They wanna be human not artificially segregated from everyone else.

Their argument is "what? I can't like going to the club? Or sexing a chick with a big booty? or cursing?"

I think their view would be similar for people thinking they shouldn't use the N word in their music. Chuck D and De La Soul were some of the pioneers of what would later be called conscious rap, and they were using the N word with authority to get their points across.

I like songs that have some sort of message to it. I think most artists are capable of making a conscious record, but unfortunately many choose not to. So its hard for me to say who is considered a conscious artist. I just like a literate nicca with lyrical skills *shrug*. Unfortunately I've become immune to the n-word in songsSleepy.
But as long as the song don't have an ample amount of gunshots, sirens and jail door closing in the background...I'm good.

I'm not the best judge of this considering "I don't like" remix was one of my favorite rap songs of the past year but, yeah...I don't mind the use of the N word by conscious rappers...it can be a tool or a crutch depending on the amt of usage.
