I still have curls that I did three months ago. I do not put my wig in the water though I put it in a strainer over the boiling water. I have a wig that's already a light color but waaaaayyy to straight for me.  I want to give it a textured curly look because I'm in love with the color but haven't had the best luck getting the curl without leaching out the color.  I've ruined the color of 2 wigs trying....Once boiling and one just with a blow dryer on dampened hair with setting lotion.  I got the curls but the color just came off :'(  Any experience/advice with curling a colored wig on the best method without leaching the color away????

Ladykmp, I learned how to boil a LF from YouTube videos.  The first time I did it, I was unsatisfied with the wave and boiled it for a longer period of time.  You need to use olive oil and a conditioner in the water.  I used foil instead of wave rods because one person on YT said they become soft.

Your best bet is to use an old unit first, watch a bunch of YT videos and cross your fingers.

I know you ladies can point me in the right direction.

I have a unit that is still lovely, still wearable, but I've decided to go darker.  This is a big thing for me because I started with units in a 4/27 (when I wore braids, I was a 27 only!) then moved to a 4, and now I'm a 3.  Well, after years of light hair, I decided to go with my natural hair color, which is a 2.  I have a unit that's a 3, planning on darkening it to a 2.  Problem is, this wavy unit is almost straight and I wanted to boil her to make her wavy again.  I've done it with other units, but never had to dye those.

So, should I boil first, then dye the unit?  Or dye the unit and then boil it?  I'm thinking boil first, then dye, but I need your opinions and talents.
