I call myself 'Black' which by definition means I am of African descent.
 
Because if was African American - then what are the actual Affricans that moved here 20 years ago called?
 
After they get their American passports THEY  are African American.

Honestly I don't understand why he's allowed to have diarrhea of the mouth talking about a ton of things that are totally inappropriate for the work place but you have to bite your tongue. A simple "this is an inappropriate convo for the workplace" is IMO enough to let him know that you're tired of his ranting - and to let him know he's stepping on toes unnecessarily.

IMO I really don't care. Black, African American, for me personally, it's all the same - I'm more than a checkbox on the census. And for the record, I always check 2 or more races whenever I have to fill out any kind of profile just because I hate those things in general...

i'm not an american, i just happen to live here -- but i am black. i find the term african-american to obsolete in many ways, though i do understand it's place. i just call black people who were born in the states americans and leave it at that. 

i think nationality, ethnicity and race are all different things that sometimes get muddled together.

Black is my race. 
American is my nationality.
African is my heritage/ethnicity (but I usually say Nigerian).

And I don't really use or like the term African American, but I am African as well as an American... but it is commonly used in America (I don't think I've ever directly referred to myself as an African American actually...)

Thanks, this is pretty much how I wanted to say it. There's just certain things, I try to prevent myself from saying around white people because they're too sensitive. I'm very much into my African roots but when I'm around certain white people, I have to diversify myself into they're ignorant ways and kind of shrug off the subliminal racism.

He doesn't like that I voted for Barack because he's black and yea, I support a decent black president over a crakkker any day, no white man is going to admit that they are ready for a black president, they'll just point out something as infinitesimal as a spec of dust and use that as an excuse for why they will not vote for a negro.

I consider myself a proud African American. My ancestors were brought here on slave ships. My ancestors marched, protested, were abused and died for the civil rights of blacks in America. My ancestors did too much for me to just call myself American bc it wasnt that long ago for me to just forget.
