indeed. You cannot always look at a test and go... oh you can plug it into such and such formula and BAM there's your answer. I wish it were that easy.

That would be called intelligence. I don't think you can learn how to be intelligent.

interesting...maybe not taught...but practice will certainly hone those critical thinking skills...
imo, you are taught how to put into practice what is learned mathically/technically in college, at least i was...
of course, with discipline one can do this for themselves. i would say that is the case with any curriculum in this day and age tho actually...

Lol. You aren't really "taught" anything in college. sh*t is spoken to you and you're responsible for remembering and figuring out its use on your own basically....which is why if I can't see the point of something from the beginning....I'll never learn it.

sounds like a plot from schools to boost kids GPAs. |
my hs bf never took his AP exams. primarily bc he didn't want to ask him mom for the money. they weren't that well off. but at the time he had got a 1590/1600 on his psat and a 1500 on his SAT colleges weren't pressed. |
we paid for AP exams??? man... lol.

hmmmm...in that case...the same would apply to grade school and hs. you are expected to come to the table with the necessary pre-requisites for a given class.
i was really referring to labs and such.
but anyway, i will say there are some teachers/professors who are better at connecting the why.
i used to tutor math students in hs and college. the biggest thing blocking their understanding was the "why". i would always try and find a way to get them to think in terms of their interests to get them to see how and why something would be used.
all of the people i tutored did MUCH better after....if i do say so myself...ahem...ahem...lol
i even tutored my aunt in college algebra over the phone...lawd....that was sort of a mess. i was living in nyc and she was here. i got her thru it over the phone tho...lol
