A lil logic says u didnt read the article.

id give the parents more of the blame than the truck driver off principle alone. someone that small is virtually impossible to see unless they are directly in front of you.

Blame Game

1. crossing guard
2. parents
3. truck driver

"Amar, who lived in the East River Houses, was walking to school with his 9-year-old brother at 7:50 a.m. Thursday when he sprinted into the street and was struck by the back wheel of a tractor-trailer turning north onto First Ave".

"Driver Robert Carroll Jr., 42, of Woodbury, N.J., at first didn’t realize he’d hit the boy. He was hit with two traffic violations for failing to yield and failing to use due care.

In the parents defense, I was born and raised in NY and I walked, took the subway/busses alone starting at around 9 or 10 years old. It's not an uncommon practice. Looking back, it may not have been the safest thing, but when you have working parents, that's sometimes how the cookie crumbles.

However, I don't think it's solely the crossing guards fault either. Crossing guards are not employed by the NYPD, they're employed by the city of NY. She must clock-in at her precinct every morning before she her shift starts. In the event that she didnt show up for work, her superiors at the precinct are in charge of finding someone to cover her post. A few ppl dropped the ball here...
