Dark patches on the skin are certainly annoying.  They make your skin unattractive and reduce your confidence as well. They are often visible on the face, hands and shoulders and are most commonly caused by sun exposure. Hormonal imbalance, stress, liver disease, and aging can also trigger their formation.

New dark spots are easier to remove than those which are on the skin for a long time; hence, there is a need for early treatment.  However, sometimes, their complete healing process may take few months or even several years.

Truly, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You can prevent the occurrence of skin damage due to dark spots formation through these following ways:

1.                               Wrap ice cubes in a clean cloth and then apply them to your skin to reduce sunburn, inflammation, irritation or acne breakouts.  Remember not to place ice cubes directly on your skin as these may damage your capillaries.  Ice’s freezing temperature prevents dirt from clogging skin pores that causes dark spots formation.

2.                              Protect your skin form the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Wear a hat or use an umbrella when going for a walk. Use a sun block to prevent your skin from getting burned under the sun. It does not only shun the formation of unwanted patches on your skin but also slows down the aging process.

3.                               Wash your face daily and observe good and proper skin hygiene. Use a mild antibacterial cleanser or one which is suitable for your skin type.

4.                               Exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells and to generate a fresh new layer of the skin.

5.                              Avoid using harsh and heavy creams. They can burn or produce skin damage.
