I also wonder in regards to the high rate of "at poverty level or 'working poor'" equals people who work off the books.

I don't know about other markets, but in NYC, so many people work "off the books". From promotions to the food/nightlife sector, a lot of people are technically not poor, but based off of what's reported to the IRS, they are. That's not to say that the numbers or massively incorrect, but for example, my fiance works in nightlife, which by default is a cash industry. So, for the most part, he gets paid in cash and would be considered upper middle class if he had to report the cash he earns. But by IRS standards, he's working poor.

The venues don't want to report income made from the bar sometimes, so they pay staff off the bar and write it off as a loss. So, how many of these "working poor" are bartenders, waiters, etc.

Of course, not everyone who's a bartender, waiter, etc are rolling in dough either. Just a thought.

Oh! Well in that case I totally agree Prazol.Beer

Wasn't Senator Elizabeth Warren trying to make it happen and she got stone walled? Lemme go look that up...

There's too much money to be made off of us and too many hands being greased (politicians & gov'n. included). They're not going to do this anytime soon.

I don't believe the off the books money is that significant...not enough to make that stats misleading. Just like your response to unemployment...you are only considered unemployed after a restricted time period...not very long....
