Flat ironing my hair today to surprise hubby, who has been complaining that I never wear my hair out and straight anymore.
I started last night but, my flat iron burned out on me. I mean, literally, with smoke and all. So, I tried to run to Walmart and grab a temporary replacement. I grabbed an Andis and that mug scorched my hair right away (and I didn't have it at it's highest). If it weren't for hubby, I'd take it as a sign and leave it alone but, I'm going to Sally's to see what they have this morning.
Hopefully I'll have pics to post by tonight. But, from what I can tell from the small section that I did straighten, my hair is back at hip, even after all the trims that I've done this year. And, I guess since more of it is natural, it just felt better - thicker and healthier. I can't wait to see what I have. I've been avoiding trying to length check or pull on my hair because of my transition. But I am curious to see how my hemline is doing. I've been trimming by cutting my hair while in twists. The thin ends would just provoke me to do so. So far, I've trimmed away at least 4". I'm just wondering if doing it like that made my hemline choppy. Ah well....we'll see. They're coming off by the end of this year anyway. I REALLY can't wait to see what I have at the end of the year with a full, freshly cut hemline.

NJoy, there's a flatiron from KISS that is actually quite good. I've used it on my extensions and my hair and it doesn't scorch my hair. It gets up to 450 but I never go past like 200 something.

Thanks modelbusiness82 ^^ I'll check it out!
I used the CHI knockoff at Sally's, GVP Ionic. My natural hair is just not flattening like I'm used to with my relaxed hair. But, I guess that's the point. It feels massive and has my relaxed ends feeling very skimpy and thin.
Since I had that burn with the other iron, I went a little heavy with the heat protectant and my hair came out oily. Since it was oily aready, and my flat ironed hair always feels a little stiff, I further oiled with CO so that my hair felt more moisturized than just oily.
Heavy oiling made it easy to see where my relaxed ends start. My natural hair is just above bsl. I'm tempted to BC but I wouldn't know what to do with my hair. So, I'll continue trimming an inch or two a month and continue to my goal of HL natural.

Thanks. But technically, I'm still where I was at the beginning of the year. Well, I've been maintaining at this length by cutting my hair to slowly get rid of my relaxed ends. So far, I've cut at least 4". But, seeing my pics and finding myself still at 30" is a little discouraging (even knowing that it's intentional).
I'm used to my length check pics being longer each time. So that said, I've decided that I'm not going to cut anymore until the end of the year. First of all, I've been doing it wrong. I've been cutting the ends off of my twists. That doesn't help to get rid of layers and adds to me feeling like my relaxed ends are skimpy. My plan is to grow to TBL and then cut back to a full HL.
I can't imagine my thickness in a blunt cut so, I may still keep a V or at least a U shape.
For now, my hair is braided up in psuedo-cornrows (ok, I can cornrow but just not my own hair. it ends up as small french braids. )
I'm focusing on growth thru the end of the year hoping that I can get rid of these relaxed ends. I'm feeling like I'm in a growth spurt right now so, I'm pretty excited about that.
What's up with the rest of you? Details, Long-haired Divas!

I know I need to post my June update so tonight I'll be taking down my twists, doing a protein treatment with Mizani and maybe a trim...actually I know I need a trim. I have been really good this year about sticking to my no heat promise since that last mishap with the salon in December, so only 6 more months of no heat.
I realized I probably haven't gotten as much growth because I have been out of oils for my scalp and forgot to restock. So I bought some wheat germ oil which will be here today. But we'll see where I'm at tomorrow.
