no one ever suggested that because it was contained it is ok.  what i said was that most people don't give a f*ck because the majority of that 40 is gang on gang crime....you know the type that bhm tries their best not to be around and wouldn't want to help any old way..

I'm sure I'm in the minority, (based upon the reactions in the revamping the Public Assistance programs to include drug testing and limiting the types of foods that can be bought like WIC does, etc.), that sees a direct correlation between a system that encourages failure and lack of self suffiency , which produces young "men" that shoot up parks at 2:20 in the afternoon.

What I am saying is that size matters. Just like you know not to walk through SE in the middle of the night but might feel perfectly safe in Adam's Morgan, multiply that by a city 10 times the size and you have chicago. It's the same.  I can see that. In 2011, the highest murder rate per capita was Philly with 20.7 per 100. Chicago was 2nd with 15.7. Wonder what it was for 2012.

I think we were around 21.4 for 2012.  I may be slightly off.

Cream, although I share a different opinion,  I’m like you, people never agree with me in these types of threads! I think the problem specifically in Chicago have to do with segregation and concentration of poverty, but other cities may have different problems for their crime issues. There is never going to be a one size fits all approach because every city has a different history and different outside influences at work. 

there are actually MANY people looking into reducing crime in Chicago specifically. there was one expert on NPR the other day talking about it. He had a lot of good info on what has been done so far and what they've learned from the failures. I am apprehensive that the new idea they have is going to work, but time will tell.
