I agree. Some people still have beef after that bush V gore fiasco and I don't blame them. But there are actual crime statistics which lists per capita murder rates which makes the "chicago needs to do something" especially perplexing to me. Meanwhile i'm sitting here watching the news for washington DC about a 18 year old girl who was murdered on the bus stop, a nightclub sprayed with bullets from the outside, and all other types of fuccery. And the murder of innocents is a chicago problem that THEY need to do something about? I just think people feel absolved from guilt if they can call it someone else's problem.

i'm not sure how this thread about chicago. my family lives in those neighborhoods. i was just there last month. i live on the east coast now and chicago is absolutely NO different than Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC I know that for a fact. This is happening everywhere, so yall in this thread asking why won't THEY do something in chicago, what exactly is going on in your city? Yall are a mess, it is easy to preach on the internet. |
in 2012 the murder rate in DC was at a 50 year low w/82 murders. divide that by 12 that is almost 7 murders a month...which while not insignifcant does not compare to Chicago statistics. DC is of course smaller than Chicago but you didnt mention size as a factor in your list....i am not sure where you're coming from. Nobody is "out" to get Chicago
but your response is an example of what i was speaking off--of some chicago residents on the board who insist there is no problem--when statistics suggest otherwise. notice i didn't say news stories--but just the numbers. |
What I am saying is that size matters. Just like you know not to walk through SE in the middle of the night but might feel perfectly safe in Adam's Morgan, multiply that by a city 10 times the size and you have chicago. It's the same.

I can see that. In 2011, the highest murder rate per capita was Philly with 20.7 per 100. Chicago was 2nd with 15.7. Wonder what it was for 2012.

i also think the declining murder rate in DC has more to do with the change in demographics. I mean, the top cops can take credit for that if they want, but sending poor people out to montgomery and PG county en mass sure isn't hurting either.

Not everywhere. I'm on the east coast & I live in one of the safest cites in the US. We usually make the top 10

I don't live in chicago. just telling you my experience moving from city to city. for what it's worth the new york metropolitan area is the only big city in this country who is worth a damn when it comes to fighting crime and getting murder rates down.
